Kyle Schwarber joins 30 home run club with bomb vs. Padres

The post Kyle Schwarber joins 30 home run club with bomb vs. Padres appeared first on ClutchPoints. Kyle Schwarber has tried to become a complete hitter this season. The Philadelphia Phillies DH is having a standout year at the plate in 2025, earning his third-career All-Star nod. But while he's raised his batting average, he hasn't lost his power stroke. Schwarber homered again on Friday, belting his 30th bomb of the year in a losing effort against the San Diego Padres. Facing San Diego starter Ryan Bergert in the third inning, down 3-1 with no one on and two out, Schwarber demolished a 94 mph four-seamer, launching the pitch 425 feet to right center. The solo blast made it a 3-2 game but the Phillies would not score again, losing 4-2 to San Diego. Kyle Schwarber's power surge doesn't lift Phillies Despite the team's struggles, Schwarber has been on an absolute tear of late. He now has a home run in three straight games with six RBI in that span. However, the Phillies have lost two of the three contests. Schwarber has five home runs, 12 RBI and a 1.128 OPS over his last nine games. The 11th-year veteran is on pace to surpass his career-high home run total, set in 2022 when he led the National League with 46 homers. And Schwarber is producing this power while becoming a more complete hitter. He's now slashing .254/.385/.560 with 69 RBI, 66 runs scored, a 156 OPS+ and 3.0 bWAR in 93 games for the Phillies. It's the seventh time the 32-year-old slugger has reached the 30-homer mark in a season and the fourth straight year he's hit at least 30 bombs. And, Schwarber reached a major career milestone in 2025, joining the 300 home run club in May. He's now up to 314 and counting. While Schwarber is thriving at the plate, the Phillies are struggling. The team has lost three of its last four since Zack Wheeler's near perfect game against the Cincinnati Reds last Sunday. Wheeler's dominant performance set the Phillies up with a 1.5 game lead over the New York Mets in the NL East. But the team squandered an opportunity to take control of the division. After the Phillies' latest loss they're 54-40 on the season with a half game lead over the Mets in the NL East. Philadelphia will look to get back on track when Wheeler takes the mound on Saturday. The veteran ace will face off against Padres starter Yu Darvish. Bryce Harper one-ups Kyle Schwarber bomb in style

The post Bryce Harper one-ups Kyle Schwarber bomb in style appeared first on ClutchPoints. Kyle Schwarber's power has made headlines this season as the Philadelphia Phillies DH reached the 30 home run mark for the seventh time in his career. And his season-long power surge continued Wednesday with another homer against the Boston Red Sox. But Phillies star Bryce Harper one-upped his teammate as the duo launched back-to-back bombs. Schwarber got the Phillies on the board in the first inning with a two-run homer off Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito that travelled 409 feet. Then Harper followed with his own blast on the very next pitch. Harper demolished a 94 mph four-seamer from Giolito. The two-time MVP sent the middle-middle offering into the second deck at Citizens Bank Park for a 439-foot solo shot. It was Harper's 14th homer of the season and No. 350 of his career, per MLB. Phillies' star Bryce Harper heats up after slow start to season Schwarber went deep for the 34th time this year on Wednesday. He has the fifth-most home runs in the majors and he's third in the National League behind Shohei Ohtani and Eugenio Suarez. He reached 300 career homers earlier this season. It's been a remarkable run for the 11th-year veteran as he leads all Phillies hitters in home runs, RBI, runs scored and bWAR. And Schwarber made All-Star Game history this season, being named MVP without recording a hit in the contest. He helped the National League win with three home runs during a tie-breaking swing-off. It was his third-career All-Star appearance. Harper meanwhile has struggled a bit in 2025. The 14th-year veteran dealt with a wrist injury that sidelined him for 22 games in June. However, he's been heating up after a slow start. Since returning from the IL on June 30, Harper is slashing .322/.429/.678. He now has five home runs and nine doubles in the last 16 games. After the duo gave the Phillies a comfortable lead early, the Red Sox battled back. Boston first baseman Romy Gonzalez hit a grand slam off Jesus Luzardo in the fifth, putting the Red Sox up 6-5. Schwarber's 1,000th hit is 319th homer, topping McGwire for most to the mark

NEW YORK — Kyle Schwarber topped Mark McGwire for most home runs among a player's first 1,000 hits, hitting long ball No. 319. 'I don't know if that's a good thing or not,' the Philadelphia Phillies slugger said. Ten days after lifting the National League to victory in the first All-Star Game swing-off, Schwarber keeps going deep. He hit a pair of two-run homers in a 12-5 victory over the New York Yankees on Friday night. The first drive, his milestone hit, started the comeback from a 2-0 deficit. He even got the ball back after it was grabbed by a Phillies fan attending with his friends in Yankee Stadium's right-center field seats. 'I saw it on the video and then I see the dude tugging. I'm like: `Oh, they all got Philly stuff on.' That was cool.' Schwarber said. He met the trio after the game, gave an autographed ball to each and exchanged hugs. When he went to get a third ball to autograph, one of the three said he just wanted the potential free agent to re-sign with the Phillies. 'You show up to the field every single day trying to get a win at the end of the day and I think our fans kind of latch on to that, right?' Schwarber said. 'It's been fantastic these last 3 1/2 years, four years now, the support that we get from our fans and it means a lot to me that you know that they attach theirselves on our team.' Schwarber tied it at 2 in the fifth against Will Warren when he hit a 413-foot drive on a first-pitch fastball. After J.T. Realmuto's three-run homer off Luke Weaver built a 6-3 lead in a four-run seventh and the Yankees closed within a run in the bottom half, Schwarber sent an Ian Hamilton fastball 380 feet into the right-field seats. Schwarber reached 1,000 hits with eight more homers than McGwire. Schwarber has 36 homers this year, three shy of major league leader Cal Raleigh, and six homers in seven games since he was voted All-Star MVP. He has 33 multi-homer games. 'I don't know where we'd be without him,' Phillies manager Rob Thomson said. 'Comes up with big hit after big hit after big hit. It's just — it's amazing.' Schwarber is 32 and eligible for free agency this fall after completing a $79 million, four-year contract. He homered on all three of his swings in the All-Star Game tiebreaker, and when the second half began Phillies managing partner John Middleton proclaimed: 'We love him. We want to keep him.' 'He's been an incredible force all season long,' Realmuto said. 'What he's meant to his team, his offense, it's hard to put in words.' A World Series champion for the 2016 Chicago Cubs, Schwarber has reached 35 homers in all four seasons with the Phillies. He's batting .255 with 82 RBIs and a .960 OPS. He also has almost as many home runs as singles (46). Schwarber had not been aware he topped McGwire for most homers among 1,000 hits. 'I had no clue. I even know it was my 1,000th, to be honest with you,' he said. ___ AP MLB:

Kyle Schwarber homers for 1,000th hit, exchanges milestone ball for autograph

Kyle Schwarber recorded his 1,000th career hit in the Philadelphia Phillies' 12-5 victory over the New York Yankees on Friday. Schwarber's milestone hit was a two-run home run that tied the game 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning. It was his 35th home run of the season. A Phillies fan, who was attending the game with his friends, caught Schwarber's 1,000th hit and the group was seen hugging after the catch. "You show up to the field every single day trying to get a win at the end of the day. I think our fans kind of latch onto that," Schwarber said. "It's been fantastic these last three-and-a-half, four years now, the support that we get from our fans. It means a lot to me that they attach themselves onto our team, myself, whatever it is. We can feel that support, and yeah, I always appreciate it.' It was the first of two two-run home runs in the game for Schwarber. The second one came in the top of the eighth inning and helped put the game out of reach for the Yankees. Schwarber brought Trea Turner in to score both times. Kyle Schwarber gets milestone ball back from fans Schwarber met with the fan who got the ball and their friends after the game. The fan returned the ball and Schwarber signed two baseballs for them. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Scott Lauber, Schwarber had asked if the fans wanted him to sign a third ball, but all the fans asked for in return was for him to re-sign with the team. Schwarber shared a laugh with the trio of fans before getting ahold of a third ball to sign. He's in the last year of his contract and will become a free agent after the season.
